The Responding to Disclosures of Family Violence session is designed to help participants identify signs of family violence, ask the right questions, and respond in a safe, supportive, and understanding way to adults who share their experiences.
Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn highlighted the importance of this training and its role to assist in helping to recognise and identify the signs of family violence.
“This training is a great chance for our community to come together and learn how to help people facing family violence,” Cr Hearn said.
“It gives you the skills to listen, respond kindly and offer support.”
The program is funded by the Victorian Government’s Free from Violence initiative, with additional support from the Benalla Social Inclusion Action Group.
“We are thankful to have the support of the Victorian Government and the Benalla Social Inclusion Action Group,” Cr Hearn said.
“Their help makes it possible to offer this free training to everyone in our community.”
“I encourage everyone to consider taking part in this free training. Family violence can affect anyone, you can help make our community a place where everyone feels safe.”
The Responding to Disclosures of Family Violence training session is free to attend, but places are limited.
Community members aged 18 and over are encouraged to register early to secure their spot.
It takes place from 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday, July 30 at Benalla’s Lakeside Community Centre.
The free training is open to all community members aged 18 and over.
