Contracts awarded for Shepparton intersection upgrades

Works to upgrade two major intersections in Shepparton will get under way later this year after the contracts were awarded by Greater Shepparton City Council.

As part of stage four of the Welsford St Redevelopment, road infrastructure at the Welsford and Fryers streets intersection will be upgraded by Apex Earthworks Pty Ltd.

Works are expected to take four months to complete and include the duplication of the right turning lane from Welsford St to Fryers St heading west.

Pavement and traffic signal upgrades will also take place and the Marungi and Fryers streets intersection will be modified.

The second contract was awarded to Jarvis Delahey Contractors Pty Ltd to upgrade the Wheeler St and New Dookie Rd intersection to a signalised T-intersection.

Works will include full depth reconstructed road pavement designed for heavy vehicle traffic, dedicated slip and turning lanes, traffic signals and controlled pedestrian crossing, and the shared path network being extended.

This upgrade project is joint funded by council and the Federal Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity program.

Works are expected to begin in November and be completed in early 2023.

City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said council was pleased to award the major projects to local companies.

“The Wheeler St and New Dookie Rd intersection upgrade is particularly important given the heavy vehicles which use this intersection every day,” Cr Sali said.

“This upgrade will provide ease of use for these heavy vehicles, while beautifying the area and providing a safer road environment.”
