After a week off and up against the reigning premiers, the Coleambally B-grade side headed into the grand final with a real belief they could get the chocolates.
With a few late changes to a settled team, Coly won the toss and batted on a hard flat deck at Exies No. 2.
Jack Weymouth-Smith didn’t bother the scorers out for a second ball duck and Luke Roberts chopped on for six, leaving Coly reeling at 2/13.
Sunil Babu and Cooper Smith steadied the ship to see Coly at 2/60 at the 20th over drink break.
The Diggers changed up their approach with two spinners taking five wickets as Coly crumbled to be 8/95 with seven overs left in the innings.
Some late order resistance from Tim Edgcombe and Matt Foster got Coly to 119.
With the ball, Coly struck early from two great catches and the Diggers were in a rut at 2/2.
Enter masterclass batsman Mick Duncan who hit Coly to all parts of the ground with a Man of the Match 60 to break the back of the Coly side.
The Diggers never looked back, passing Coly five down and with 12 overs left in the match to go back-to-back premiers.
Coleambally held their heads high after a great season and are to be commended for always travelling and extending their juniors with higher opportunities.
