Cobram East Drainage Strategy to support housing development

The Cobram East Drainage Strategy will support the creation of about130 new homes in the short term.

Moira Shire Council has adopted the Cobram East Drainage Strategy, setting the foundation for improved stormwater management and future housing development in Cobram.

The strategy, endorsed at the March council meeting, provides a framework for managing stormwater in Cobram East while supporting sustainable housing growth.

It includes plans for a central retention basin and wetland, along with an outfall to Scotts Creek, ensuring environmental protection and flood mitigation.

Council will now progress detailed design works and establish a shared infrastructure scheme, enabling developers to co-contribute to construction costs.

This collaborative approach will support timely approvals for new developments within this catchment.

Council chair administrator Graeme Emonson said the strategy demonstrated council’s commitment to supporting housing growth.

“Council looks forward to seeing the housing developments this strategy will bring to the Cobram community,” Dr Emonson said.

“Adoption of the strategy will enable around 130 new homes in the short term and up to 320 homes in the longer term, supporting housing demand, regional growth and attracting more families to our area.“
