Police also formally identified the 44 year-old as Mark Akers.
Mark had been reported missing from Queensland only days before his body was found at the side of the Newell Highway at about 12.35pm on June 17.
Murray River Police District Detective Chief Inspector Jy Brown said he was last seen leaving a service station on Southey St, Jerilderie about 2.30am on June 16.
He was seen heading in the direction of Finley in an all-black 2021 model black Toyota Landcruiser 200 series with distinctive pink stickers on the windscreen, seen travelling.
His body was located about 11km out of Jerilderie.
Strike Force Zaventem was established, and detectives are treating Mark’s death as suspicious.
Mark’s father, John Akers, is urging the public to come forward to assist in the investigations.
“Mark was the kindest soul who would do anything for anyone, and was sadly taken from us too soon,” he said.
“We are devastated by his passing and miss Mark terribly. We need a swift resolution and peace for Mark.
“I would like to ask the public, or anyone, who perhaps witnessed anything unusual, no matter how big or small, please contact the police.”
Det Chief Insp Brown echoed the pleas from Mr Akers, and said anyone who had seen Mark, his companion and the distinctive car after it entered NSW should come forward.
“The family want some closure about what’s happened to Mark, and our investigators are trying to piece that together to give them answers.
“Mark left Queensland on June 15 in the company of a passenger, and we’d like to speak to anyone who had any sighting of them since entering New South Wales.
“There may be someone out there with dash cam footage.
“Whether you passed through the area in the day or nighttime, we ask you to review your footage.
“If there is anything of interest, please contact CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000 or contact the Deniliquin Police Station’s criminal investigators on (03) 5881 9299.
“We have seized the Landcruiser, and it is being forensically tested.
“We have also had some conversations with the passenger, and some other witnesses, but no arrest has been made yet.”
Police believe that after leaving Brisbane, Mark and his travel companion travelled via Goondiwindi in Queensland, and Boggabilla and Forbes in NSW before stopping at Jerilderie.
