Beefcorp Australia submitted a development application to Murrumbidgee Council to build 91 feeding pens each with a capacity of 80 head of cattle, as well as an additional 10 smaller feeding pens (40 head capacity).
Hospital pens with shade will also be included, enabling more intense animal husbandry practices and better management of any sick animals.
When put to public exhibition in January, no objections to the development were received from the public.
As its March 24 meeting, council delegated authority to the general manager to issue the notice of determination.
“The application falls within the category of designated development and integrated development due to the capacity of the feedlot,” council's report on the proposal reads.
“As part of council’s statutory obligations, details of the development application were referred to a number of government agencies.
“The development has been assessed with regard to the matters for consideration set out in Section 4.15 of the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act, 1979, and concludesthat the proposed development has merit.”
The feedlot must meet Class 1 Standard outlines of the National Guidelines for Beef Cattle Feedlots in Australia.
The project is valued at more than $3.3 million and is expected to cover an area of about 775 hectares across two properties 20km north west of Finley, with frontage to Rolfe Rd and Logie Brae Rd.
In accordance with Section 7.12 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and council’s Development Contribution Plan 2010, one per cent of the proposed cost ($338,600) is to be funded by the council.
