This year’s theme, ‘We all have a role to play - and it starts with a conversation’, reminds us that suicide prevention is not just the work of professionals.
It is something that each of us, as family members, friends, neighbours, and community members, can take part in.
Suicide affects many people and communities - and ours is no different.
Too many families, friends, and workplaces have been touched by loss, and that is why events like this matter.
Together, we can show support, remember those we have lost, and build a safer, more connected community.
The event will begin at 11am in the Deniliquin Waring Gardens, with a short community walk at 11.30am.
At noon, a light lunch will be shared with everyone who attends, followed by a second short walk at 12.30pm.
People are welcome to join at any time between 11am and 1pm — for a walk, for lunch, or simply to stand alongside the community in support.
Every one of us has the power to notice when someone is struggling, to start a conversation, and to show care through listening.
Talking about suicide does not cause it, but silence, stigma, and fear too often stop people from speaking up or reaching out for help.
Breaking down that stigma begins with small but powerful actions: learning more about suicide prevention, how to recognise the signs, and how to start conversations.
Joining events like this walk shows our community cares.
By taking part, we are sending a clear message - suicide is not something to be hidden in silence, and mental health is something we can and should talk about openly.
The walk and lunch are a chance for us to come together, honour lives touched by suicide, and walk side by side as a community.
Each step we take is a step toward breaking down stigma, opening conversations, and reminding one another that help is always available.
We all have a role to play, and it starts with a conversation, a willingness to learn more, and the courage to take action.
Join us in the Deniliquin Waring Gardens on September 10 and be part of this important movement for hope and connection.
