Mr Sutton is president of the Barooga Cricket Club, vice president of the Barooga Recreation Reserve Committee, and is involved in the Murray Valley Cricket Association.
‘‘No job is too big or too small for Wes,’’ Berrigan Shire Mayor Matt Hannan said at the Finley ceremony on January 26.
‘‘He is often seen happily applying covers to the cricket pitch, organising fundraising events, and is especially focused on the development and mentoring of youth.
‘‘Through his business, Wes also provides sponsorship to both the Barooga Cricket Club and Yarroweyah Football and Netball Club, and is often seen helping out at the local footy when needed.’’
Mr Sutton told the Southern Riverina News that he was humbled and honoured to have been nominated.
He says he grew up playing football and cricket and has remained involved to share the opportunity with others.
‘‘Sport is good for personal development, keeping involved with old friends and meeting new people,’’ he said.
‘‘I just want to give back to the sport what it gave to me — and to share that enjoyment.’’
