Principal Matt Collins said the school was hoping to purchase a 22-seat bus, which would cater to most of the school’s classes and allow staff to take students to different locations without relying on external transport providers.
“We've identified a need within our school, based on the rising cost of transport and the ability that the school has to support families to subsidise fees associated with travel and to be a bit more self-sufficient,” he said.
“It opens up that scope for staff to be able to take their class to different locations to enhance curriculum, and do different rather than, you know, relying on booking through a transport company.
“I've done some consultation with the community, and everyone really supports the idea.”
To help raise funds for the bus, the school is holding a raffle, with $5000 cash offered as the first prize.
Second prize is a $1000 fuel voucher, while third prize is a $700 family photography voucher donated by Jessica Sim Photography.
Tickets cost $5 and are available from the school office or online at trybooking.com/DMWKU
Winning tickets will be drawn at the presentation day assembly in December.
