The Finley Show Society is calling all local women aged between 18 and 24 to sign up for the showgirl competition, while anyone aged between 16 and 19 can nominate to be the ambassador.
Finley has been successful in the competitions in recent years with 2017 winner Maicie Close travelling to Sydney for the state finals.
Last year’s Finley Showgirl Michelle Barnes said entering is a worthwhile experience.
‘‘The Showgirl Competition is not a beauty pageant,’’ Miss Barnes said.
‘‘It’s a chance to make new friends and it really helped me build on my self-confidence.
‘‘It’s all about supporting your community and local show plus learning new skills. I absolutely loved being the Finley Showgirl,’’ Miss Barnes said.
Miss Barnes is also a former Finley Junior Show Ambassador and went on to win the Goulburn Valley Riverina Shows Association’s Junior Show Ambassador for 2018.
‘‘In interviews and speeches you discuss fixing farming and promoting it for the younger generation. Like the showgirl competition I was able to network with other people who have similar interests to me.’’
The Finley Showgirl winner will claim $150, and the prize for the Junior Show Ambassador is $100. There are also prizes for finishing second.
Judging for both competitions will take place before Show Day in September. To register, call 0499 872 437.
