Jaxon Peakall had been patrolling a road in Mindarabin, in Western Australia's Great Southern region, on Tuesday night when he was hit by a falling tree.
The long-serving volunteer firefighter suffered critical injuries and died at the scene, about 400 kilometres southeast of Perth.
Mr Peakall had been helping firefighters battle a large bushfire in the Shire of Gnowangerup shortly before the tragedy.
The Mindarabin fire triggered multiple emergency level warnings but has since been brought under control.
The fire burned through more than 5540 hectares.
The 34-year-old's death sent shockwaves through the community, with messages flooding social media in remembrance of him.
North Albany Football Club described Mr Peakall as a "loved team mate" who always brought happiness and laughter to the club".
"Rest in peace Jacko, a true champion," it said on Facebook.
Another post labelled the farmer as a "once-in-a-lifetime friend" who was always helping someone.
"There were always laughs with Jaxon, and he cared deeply for others. He was pure go-go-go," the post read.
Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Darren Klemm said the community was deeply saddened by the loss of Mr Mr Peakall.
"It is a tragic reminder of the dangers our brave firefighters face, putting their lives on the line to help protect the communities they live in," he said.
"Our thoughts are with Jaxon's family, friends, volunteer colleagues and the wider Borden community."
The death is the second fire-related fatality in the region after Shire of Ravensthorpe deputy president Mark Mudie died fighting a bushfire threatening his property earlier in December.
An investigation into the 34-year-old's death will continue, the commissioner added.
