Agrimin is recognised as a world leader in trace mineral bolus technology, with its range used extensively throughout the UK, New Zealand and Australia.
Headlining the Agrimin range is the A ll-Trace Cattle bolus, which delivers a sustained supply of six trace minerals (copper, selenium, cobalt, zinc, manganese and iodine) and three vitamins (Vitamins A, D and E) to beef and dairy cattle for eight months.
Elanco senior brand manager – cattle, Kim Krilich, says All-Trace is suitable for cattle over 5 months of age and 150kg live weight grazing pastures in regions where there are known mineral deficiencies.
“This innovative, multi-mineral bolus is ideal for supporting health, fertility and productivity in high-performance or high-value livestock,” she says.
“Even the best pastures can be lacking in key minerals at certain times of the year r when livestock are being intensively grazed.”
The All-Trace bolus comprises a resin-skinned matrix that controls the release of nutrients as the matrix erodes, providing a reliable long-term supply of key minerals and vitamins.
The dissolvable end-weight ensures the bolus remains in reticulum during the pay-out period.
By comparison, Agrimin’s Smartrace™ 24∙ 7 rang e features a t wo-part bolus that is covered by an outer wax coating.
Once in the reticulum, the outer wax coating dissolves and the bolus breaks into two parts.
Agrimin’s‘physical erosion’ formulation technology slowly releases the key trace elements, which then pass freely from the animal’s gut to the bloodstream.
24∙ 7 Smartrace Adult Cattle and 24∙ 7 Smartrace Growing Cattle deliver a sustained supply of selenium, iodine and cobal t for up to six months to support production and breeding in adult cattle (>400kg live weight) and growing cattle (200–400kg live weight), respectively.
“They are suitable for beef and dairy cattle grazing pastures in regions where there are known selenium, iodine and cobalt deficiencies,” Kim says.
“Selenium, iodine and cobalt are three of the most important trace elements required for health and productivity.”
24∙ 7 Smartrace Adult Sheep boluses deliver a sustained supply of selenium, iodine and cobalt for at least four months to support production and/or breeding in adult sheep (>40kg live weight).
Agrimin also offer single mineral boluses for cattle for when targeted support is required.
24∙ 7 C opper 20 g boluses are suitable for the prevention and treatment of copper deficiency in beef and dairy cattle.
A single treatment delivers a sustained supply of copper for approximately six months.
They are suitable for cattle over 200 kg live weight grazing pastures in regions that are low in copper or are high in copper antagonists (e.g. molybdenum, iron and sulphur).
Completing the range is 24∙ 7 Calcium, which can be administered to prevent sub-clinical or aid in the prevention of clinical hypocalcaemia (Milk Fever ) in dairy cows.
The bolus dissolves within 50 minutes of administration, delivering a rapid source of fast-release calcium chloride and slow-release calcium sulphate.
One bolus should be administered immediately before or after calving and a second bolus 12 to 15 hours later.
The Agrimin range complements Elanco’s existing range of solutions that address clinical and sub-clinical mineral deficiencies and metabolic diseases in cattle and sheep.
They include MultiBoost with B12, Selovin LA, Cobalife VB12 and Copperplan 20.
“Elanco now has arguably the widest range of precision nutrient supplements available, spanning multi and single element formulations, short and long-acting, dry lick, injectable and bolus delivery systems,” Kim says.
“We’re excited to distribute this range of bolus technology to the Australian market to provide our customers with more options in mineral and vitamin supplementation to optimise livestock production.”
