Seymour punishes Shepparton on turnovers in round eight win

From Shepparton’s 56 turnovers, the Lions were able to pile on a whopping 14.3 (87), making the Bears pay a heavy price for their errors.

It was in the midfield where the Lions feasted most, with 10.2 (62) originating from midfield turnovers.

The Bears were able to force the home side into errors, with Seymour racking up a game-high 57, yet the visitors struggled to replicate the Lions’ ability to score off turnovers and managed 3.7 (25) in comparison.

Seymour had 11 separate goal-kickers and seven of those kicked multiple goals.

Onball jet Ben Rigoni continued his sublime form with a starring three-goal, 33-disposal and 11-clearance game as he chalked up 181 ranking points.

Midfield teammate Jack O’Sullivan also hit the scoreboard with two goals, while Lachlan Waite, Michael Hartley, Seamus Feery, Ben Cooney and Thomas Davey all kicked two or more majors.

Seymour was able to get first use of the ball and that is highlighted by its dominance in contested possessions (127-95), total ground ball gets (92-63) and clearances (41-31)

The Bears did manage to win hit-outs (41-30) and had more marks, but they were noticeably down on their usual pressure and tackling intensity.

Shepparton managed 35 for the match, slightly down from its season average of 52 per game.

Pressure acts from Seymour and Shepparton, who are ranked 11th and 12th respectively in the competition, was down as well.

The host managed 19, compared to the Bears’ 29, for the match.
