And among the competitors will be the three Gavenlock sisters from Tallygaroopna, who are already old hands at handling stock.
Penny, Brittany and Maggie have been spending time after school and on weekends preparing their heifers for the show, under the guidance of show professional parents, Jess and Brad.
In past years, the Gavenlock family has prepared its own cattle and other breeders’ cattle for International Dairy Week, at their 60ha Cherrylock stud.
This year’s Shepparton Show team will include the daughter of a Wisconsin World Dairy Expo reserve grand champion judged on September 30, Spring View Joel Kinsley.
The Gavenlocks routinely take their cattle to district shows where the girls get their practice in preparation and leading.
The youngest, Maggie, 6, acknowledges the heifers are hard to lead sometimes when they don’t do as they are told.
Dad, Brad, suspects that might be because the girls sometimes spoil them with attention.
The all breeds youth cattle show will start on Friday at 6pm in the multi-purpose shed.
Siblings Maggie Gavenlock, 6, with Jersey “Special K" and Britanny Gavenlock, 8, with Holstein “Princess”. Both girls will be leading their cattle at the youth show on Friday, October 9.
