The 45-year-old pop star was driving in Sag Harbor, New York, in June 2024 when his car was pulled over by police and he later pleaded guilty to a traffic violation and driving while ability impaired.
Timberlake's lawyers are trying to prevent video taken on police body cameras during his arrest from being made public.
Legal papers have been filed in Sag Harbor in a bid to stop the footage being released following Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and Variety reports the singer's legal team has been granted a temporary restraining order.
The publication reports Suffolk County Judge Joseph Farneti approved the request on Thursday and officials in Sag Harbor were given until April 9 to submit extra documentation for the case.
Timberlake was stopped after allegedly running a stop sign and swerving between lanes and the paperwork filed in Sag Harbor claimed the footage in question shows the singer "in an acutely vulnerable state during a roadside encounter with law enforcement" adding the film captured "intimate details" of Timberlake's "physical appearance, demeanour, speech, and conduct".
New York Post column PageSix reported Timberlake's lawyer Michael Del Piano claimed releasing the footage would cause "severe and irreparable harm" to the singer's "personal and professional reputation" and subject him to "public ridicule and harassment".
"(There is) no legitimate public interest in understanding the operations of government ... disclosure of this footage would constitute an unwarranted invasion (of Timberlake's privacy)," the lawyer said.
After entering his guilty pleas, Timberlake was ordered to perform 25 to 40 hours of community service and his New York driving licence was suspended for 90 days. He was also required to pay a $US500 ($A710) fine and a $US260 surcharge.
The singer claimed to have only consumed one alcoholic drink prior to his arrest and after the case came to an end, Timberlake urged others to learn from his mistakes.
Speaking to the press outside the New York court, the pop star said: "What I'd like to say to everyone watching and listening, even if you've had one drink, don't get behind the wheel of a car.
"There are so many alternatives. Call a friend, take an Uber, there are many travel apps, take a taxi.
"This is a mistake that I made, but I am hoping that whoever is watching and listening right now can learn from this mistake."
