Long awaited renovations to the Finley Showgrounds change rooms and canteen have finally come to fruition with a confirmed $200,000 upgrade.
The change rooms will receive $100,000 in funding through the NSW Government’s ClubGrants Category 3 Fund, with the Berrigan Shire Council also committing $100,000.
The renovations will include new showers, toilets, kiosk and replace the existing dilapidated roof.
The change rooms are regularly used by soccer and touch football clubs.
Berrigan Shire director of corporate services Matt Hansen said the Finley Showgrounds and Sporting Complex committee and Berrigan Shire have been seeking funding for a couple of years.
‘‘This project is one that the council would have struggled to deliver without external funding,’’ he said.
‘‘This would be the fourth time lucky for this project.
‘‘It missed out on an earlier ClubGrants round as well as Stronger Country Communities and Crown Lands Improvement Program.
‘‘The user bodies have little capacity to raise funds to assist in the development of the facility and the council has committed heavily to other town improvements in Finley and elsewhere in Berrigan Shire.
‘‘The council is particularly pleased for the volunteer committee of management which has been working on getting this project delivered for nearly four years.’’
