After a COVID-19 impacted year, three local cricketers finally got their chance to demonstrate their talent at the NSW Youth Championship carnival in Dubbo last week.
Tocumwal Cricket Club players Jeremy Packer and Logan White were both selected in the under 14s, while Liam Sutton played in the under 13s.

All three were nominated by the Murray Valley Cricket Association to trial for the Cricket Albury Wodonga teams.
COVID caused their trials and subsequent trainings to be altered, but eventually after two trials and two practise games, all three boys were selected to play for the Cricket Albury Wodonga team at the carnival.
Here they would meet youth representative teams from the ACT, Western Plains, Illawarra, Murrumbidgee, Central West and Greater Southern areas in an opportunity to begin their journey into higher level cricket.
The U14 Cricket Albury Wodonga (CAW) team came away as championship winners at Dubbo, taking out the leader board in the U14 Thunder Pool.
They won their first limited overs (50) match and then three of four of the T20 matches —only narrowly going down in one game.
They backed this up with two more wins in their final limited overs matches.
Logan was one of the team’s key bowlers, doing damage in each game.
His mixture of pace and swing saw him take a total of nine wickets, to be the top performer in bowling across all of the under 14s teams.
Logan’s best was 3/5 off six overs against Murrumbidgee, and he took at least one or two wickets in every game he bowled.
Being pace, he was rested for one day of the carnival.
Logan also opened the batting in one of the T20 games.
Jeremy was instrumental in helping score the final runs in the last, nail-biting game, helping CAW to a defendable target. He was the lone batter to be not out at the close of the innings.
Jeremy was also strong in the field, taking a catch and two wickets throughout the carnival.
He was a great team player and demonstrated selflessness to help his team.
In the under 13s, Liam was a major player, wicket keeping for several games.
Across the week, Liam took three wickets and three catches to help his team finish equal fifth on percentage.
Liam showed his batting prowess being the top scorer for his team in their game against Western Plains.
The under 13s had a draw in their first limited innings match.
They went on to win three of four T20s, and one of the two final limited overs matches.
