Held in Madeira, Portugal for the first world championships in three years, Pearse gets his campaign under way in the 200-metre SM10 individual medley from 11.47pm (AEST) on Monday, June 13, the first of his three events.
But the 18-year-old, competing in his second world championships, will be aiming for another strong showing in his pet event, the 100-metre butterfly, in which he famously won bronze at the Tokyo Paralympics.
It’s also the same event he claimed bronze in at the 2019 World Paraswimming Championships in London.
Pearse hits the pool in that event on Thursday, June 16 from 11.35pm (AEST), before wrapping up his campaign in the 100-metre backstroke on Saturday, June 18.
For the young swimming prodigy, it’s just the beginning of a packed schedule.
Portugal will be the first stop on the international stage for Pearse this year, with a spot on the Australian swim team bound for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games confirmed, which is just over a month away.
On day one in Madeira, five of Pearse’s Australian teammates medalled in a successful opening stanza for the Dolphins at the championships, including a gold medal to Rowan Crothers in the 50-metre freestyle.
With the time difference between Portugal and Australia, Channel 7 will be providing highlights from 9am the morning after competition.
However, finals are set to be live-streamed by the free-to-air broadcaster.
