After a week off due to the round 16 split fixture, the Tigers were all class as they cruised to a 9.4 (58) to 12.10 (82) away win.
Saturday afternoon’s result was never in doubt for the visiting side, with the ladder leaders in front at every change.
A first quarter of six goals and six points set the tone for the day, and Cobram coach John Brunskill said while the first half was bright, the Tigers dropped off in the second.
“Numurkah were really good in the second half, I thought,” he said.
“We probably went away from a few of our structures, but we got the four points and that was the main thing, and obviously keeps us in the hunt for the top two.”
Brunskill said the Tigers had five or six players out for the clash; however, with finals on the horizon, a number of players are shaping up for a return.
Nathan Hartley was named best on ground for Cobram, with Lewis Kennedy also performing well.
Tyron Baden was named third best for his six-goal haul.
“Nathan and Lewis, they played really good one-on-one footy, so that’s what they brought to the table, and Tyron just did his normal thing, he’s in really good form at the moment and kicking some goals,” Brunskill said.
“We lost Darcy Kennedy early and that hurt our structures up forward.
“He’s only just come back from his hamstring injury and now he’s done his ankle, so he’ll be out for a few weeks.”
Meanwhile on the netball courts, Cobram also came out on top, with Fran Redman’s side securing its fourth win of the A-grade season.
The Tigers were on top all day, with a scoreline of 29 to 72 making for a convincing win.
Next week Cobram will travel to Tongala, while Barooga will return to action at home against Congupna.
In the Picola and District Football League finals are officially here, with a dramatic last round of matches making for an interesting post-season.
Katamatite missed out on a spot in the top four by the skin of its teeth, falling to Jerilderie in a five-point thriller.
The 11.8 (74) to 12.7 (79) result was decided by one scoring shot and the two sides will meet again this weekend, with the second elimination final set to be held on Sunday in Berrigan at 2:05pm.
In Strathmerton, the Bulldogs also suffered defeat; however, with other results going their way they remained in third.
An inspired Katandra was simply too good for the home side, running out 8.10 (58) to 11.10 (76) winners, with Strathmerton now receiving a week off.
Elsewhere, Tocumwal ended its season on a high, downing Berrigan by 87 points, while Yarroweyah suffered a defeat to end its campaign in the reserves competition.
In the netball, all four of the region’s senior sides will appear in the finals.
At the A-grade level Strathmerton will enjoy a week off after downing Katandra by eight, with its qualifying final opponent Katamatite downing Jerilderie to finish in fourth, while Tocumwal moved into the eight after receiving four points due to forfeit.
The Bloods will face Katunga on Saturday in Jerilderie.
In the B-grade netball Yarroweyah booked a spot in the post-season despite picking up a loss to Tungamah.
This week the seventh-placed Hoppers will take on Katamatite’s B-grade side at Berrigan on Sunday.
