Saints fend off Rovers in top ladder clash

Berrigan’s Under 17s netballers have staked an early claim as the team to beat following an impressive 10 goal win against the Deni Rovers on Saturday.The Saints gave their all in wet and challenging conditions in the Picola & District League round three clash.With each player meeting their match, the Saints stepped up to show the strength and determination needed to get the win.Berrigan’s attackers were notable, working hard for the full four quarters.A special mention goes to Lily Sharp, who pushed hard all game with consistency and focus.Final score, Berrigan 42 to Deni 32.Awards: Essential Hair & Beauty - Rose Chamberlain, J&D Nolan Excavation - Regan Fox, Capable Minds - Shae Fennel.Reports for the other netball games are as follows:Under 15s: In a very wet game, all worked super hard in defence while the Saints’ attacking end were faced with a tall Deni defence, who had to work hard to stay in front.It was fantastic team effort by all and Berrigan’s netballers should be proud of themselves.Final score, Deni Rovers 30 to Berrigan 11.Awards: Barooga Laundromat - Kate Purtill, Berrigan Takeaway & Pizza - Michele Arcasitas, Kayleigh & Rossy - Tamika Mossman.Under 13s: In a fast-paced game, the Berrigan girls were strong against a tall and skillful Deni team.The first quarter saw the Saints only down by two and they continued to fight hard.Each quarter saw Deni increase their lead despite Berrigan working hard in the midcourt and in defending some brilliant Rovers goalies.Final score, Deni Rovers 30 to Berrigan 9.Awards: Berrigan Takeaway & Pizza – Jess O’Dwyer, Barooga Laundromat - Tarryn Wright, Jax Wright Award - Abigail Walsh.Under 11s: Berrigan’s young girls showed great improvement in their second game with lots of positive talk on court encouraging and directing play against a tall and polished junior Deni team.There were some impressive intercepts throughout the game with all girls pushing themselves and enjoying being out there.No scores were kept.Awards: Pam’s Award - Heidi Walsh, Meyerville Racing - Lucy Pyle, Dean and Cara Loats Award - Grace Cameron.
