Demons drop the ball against Redeyes

Blighty’s Under 17s scored their first win of the Picola & District League season when hosting Jerilderie for round three on Saturday.In what was a good game to watch despite the weather, the Redeyes came out in full force.Shelby-Lea Hislop did an amazing job in GK, dominating her player at all times.Taylor Wilkinson and Bridie Blake worked well shooting together in the ring.Blighty’s midcourt players created turnovers and ensured the play went smoothly.The Redeyes players worked together beautifully in a much needed 17 goal win.Final score, Blighty 48 to Jerilderie 31.Blighty awards: Holly Amor and Shelby-Lea Hislop.Blighty’s Under 15s made it back to back wins in an impressive display of teamwork in a wet and cold game.The Redeyes trialled moving around positions and the players adjusted well, striving in the opportunity to show off their strengths.Berrigan’s players stepped up and had a high impact on play from the first whistle despite the loss.While conditions underfoot were wet and slippery the Saints never gave up.Great efforts in defence saw the ball turned over many times, while the midcourt and attack kept the pressure on with many intercepts made.Berrigan’s shooters battled hard with four girls getting to play GS or GA throughout the game.There were plenty of positives for the Saints, however they will look to improve by making better space on the court and concentrate on passing to a free player.Overall it was a good game to watch with noticeable improvement every week.Blighty ran out 13 goal victors in a low scoring affair.Final score, Blighty 25 to Jerilderie 12.Blighty awards: Jessica Hanmer and Melina Tidcombe.Jerilderie’s Under 13s scored their first win of the season against Blighty.Katie Wilkinson and Georgia Belling showed plenty of skill when playing in both defence and when going for goals.Montana Aylett stepped it up again this week and Jessica Wilkinson showed plenty of determination throughout the game.Lots of possessions were taken and fewer mistakes were made by the Dees this week which made the game flow much better.Despite the six goal loss the Redeyes also played their best game of the season.Samara Watson and Ruby Pisasale combined well in the goal circle, and Dakota McKenzie controlled the play through the midcourt.Gemma Macdonald also continued her good form and was excellent in defence.Final score, Jerilderie 14 to Blighty 8.Blighty awards: Samara Watson, Dakota McKenzie and Ruby Pisasale.The Under 11s saw all of the youngest Redeyes and Demons playing extremely well in their first wet game.Blighty’s Catie Michael did a fantastic job in defence and also shooting, while Milly Hanmer dominated in various positions on the court.Berrigan coaches Ally Barlow and Elle Rochford said it was good to see the teamwork and passages of play made by all the girls.The ball flowed up and down the court with the Demons having many chances to have a shot at goal.No scores were recorded.Blighty awards: Inga Steenholdt, Catie Micheal and Amelia Armytage.
