Bradbury wins Cobb Open

Rick Bradbury is the Berrigan Community Bowls Club Betty Cobb Open Handicap Champion for 2019/20.Bradbury (15), the top handicap, defeated Garry Seamer (8) 21-18 in a close-fought match played in front of a good crowd enjoying the unseasonably warm day.Bradbury got off to a flying start, catching up his handicap in the first six ends, and then moved to an 8-4 lead.From there Seamer recovered and stuck with Bradbury for much of the match – getting to within three shots of an upset win.However, Bradbury showed great composure in the last few ends to finish off the match.The fine weather saw a great turn out for the Winter Round Robin with more than 15 bowlers on the green on both Saturday and Sunday.Garry Seamer leads the table in Division One while Graeme Parr is the Division Two leader.The Holy Shield event will start on August 16 with teams from Berrigan, Finley and Oaklands travelling to Jerilderie for round one.Round two will be at Finley on August 23, round three at Oaklands on September 13 and the final will be played at Berrigan on September 27.Entries are now open for the inaugural Neville Burke and Mick Bush 3-bowl triples event to be played at Berrigan on Saturday, September 5.With COVID-19 restrictions, this event is open to NSW clubs only. Entry is $90 per team and includes lunch and a complimentary drink. Possum (Bush) and Burkey are legends and life members of Berrigan club and this promises to be a great day to recognise their contribution.With the ongoing restrictions in Victoria and across the border, club officials are considering how and when a pennant competition of some sorts will be played.Volunteer coach Geoff Blake is available every Tuesday and Wednesday between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.His advice and assistance is available to all club members and to non-members who may be interested in learning more about the game.
