Competition between Eagles and Koalas was hard fought all day with the final result coming down to the final two events of the day, giving Eagles a two point win.
With all three houses fielding similar number of competitors aged eight to 12 years, it was the enthusiastic participation of the Koalas team competing in more events which led to their victory to take home the Rosemary Reed Shield for participation.
The carnival culminated the two weeks of swim scheme that has seen enormous improvements in the standard of swimming throughout the school.
Students in Years 2 to 6 participated each day in small groups undertaking stroke development and building fitness.
TPS principal Darren White said that the number of students who now compete in the 50m was a testament to the swim scheme.
“Students are gaining confidence and skills which is very important for their fitness as well as their safety,” he said.
“It was very exciting to see some students competing in their first races after overcoming their fear of the water.
“Thank you to Mrs (Beth) Hatty for the organisation of the carnival and for the teachers who assisted in making it such an enjoyable day.”
Many individual swimmers shone throughout the day with some age groups closely contested.
The 2020 champions were as follows:
Junior Boy - Ashton Desailly, r/u James White; Junior Girls - Mia Owen, r/u Charlie Gatty; 11 Years Boy - Heath Mansell, r/u Alex Booth; 11 Years Girl - Molly-Mae Ruigrok, r/u Adrienne Jones; Senior Boy - Logan White, r/u Jett Parker; Senior Girls - Abigail Walsh and Evelyn McCallum (joint winners).
In addition, a number of records were broken including six by Logan White, and one each by Chace Brunskill, Alex Booth and Ella Baldwin.
Three relay records were also smashed, showing the improvements across the school.
On Friday, February 28, about 30 students will compete at the Finley Zone Swimming Carnival looking to qualify for the Regional Carnival later this term.
“We wish them all the best of luck,” Mr White said.
