Remembrance Day services will see a pause for one minute’s silence

In Shepparton and Mooroopna, commemorative services will be held at the respective cenotaphs, starting at 10.30am.

In a break from tradition of having a veteran speak at the ceremonies, this year’s services in the two locations will see speeches by Greater Shepparton Secondary College students.

The students all have relatives who served in a war.

Shepparton RSL sub-branch president Bob Wilkie said he was pleased to have the younger generations play a part.

“We thought we’d do something different and get students to talk this year,” he said.

The services will also include a wreath-laying ceremony, as well as the minute’s silence at 11am.

Services will also be held in other towns throughout the Goulburn Valley.

These include at Dookie, where the Dookie RSL sub-branch will start its service at 10.40am sharp at the war memorial in the main street.
