Eleven swift water rescue specialists from Fire Rescue Victoria and 26 storm flood crews from VICSES headed north on Thursday, July 7.
They join nine people deployed on July 4 from VICSES, CFA and Emergency Management Victoria to help with liaison, flood rescue co-ordination, information and warnings, intelligence and administration roles.
At this stage, no crews or personnel from Cobram CFA or Cobram SES have been deployed north to help.
VICSES Chief Officer Tim Wiebusch said: “We have a strong and ongoing commitment with our counterparts interstate, and we will do whatever we can to assist”.
“Our volunteers have once again answered the call, leaving work and family commitments behind to assist the flooding situation in NSW. We thank those volunteers who are assisting, and also send our thanks to their employers who have released them for deployment at short notice”.
Heavy rainfall and severe weather have hit Sydney, Hunter and Illawarra regions since Sunday, with more than 100 evacuation orders and 50 evacuation warnings already issued by NSWSES.
The latest deployment of Victorian personnel follows previous support provided to NSW during the March flood event.
Emergency Management Commissioner Andrew Crisp said Victoria was pleased to support NSW and assist communities impacted by this significant flooding event.
"Our thoughts are very much with the people of NSW, emergency services and communities impacted by significant flooding,’’ he said.
"Victoria will continue to look at what additional support we can provide to provide relief to local emergency services and to support communities.
"Victoria and NSW have a long history of supporting each other during emergencies. Thank you to our wonderful emergency services personnel who have answered the call to provide support."
