Sandra Walker, an avid community fundraiser, has committed to raffling off her toy, George – with all the proceeds going towards the Edwards family.
She said she wants to raise as much as she can for Xavier and his family who will need to make wheelchair-safe modifications to their home and car.
“I know what it’s like to live with kids who have disabilities because I have two of my own,” Ms Walker said.
“Xavier is a local and he needs help – that’s a good enough reason for me.”
George was gifted to Ms Walker by a lady who thought she’d be able to use him in her fundraising efforts.
“I do a lot of charity work, which is why she thought of me,” Ms Walker said.
Xavier’s grandmother, Roz Edwards said she was thankful to Sandra and the wider community for their unwavering support.
“Sandra is so kind and has such a good heart,” Ms Edwards said.
“Our family are sincerely grateful to be surrounded by such a compassionate community.
“He’s been blessed in a way, even through such a tragedy. The community support we have received has just been incredible.”
As to Xavier’s condition, Ms Edwards said this was the best week Xavier had had since being admitted to hospital.
“When he’s feeling OK, like he has been the past week, he’s really able to concentrate on his rehab,” Ms Edwards said.
“Prior to this week, Xavier had been in and out of ICU, so it’s really nice to see him feeling a bit better this week.”
