To prepare the site for the next stage of construction, several key milestones have been achieved since the project commenced in April.
Earthworks are nearing completion at the rear of the gallery, with the old loading dock now removed to make way for the footings of the new restaurant space.
The inside of the building has been carefully stripped back to its framework, removing the old interior, in preparation for internal remedial and upgrade works.
The project is now moving into an exciting new phase.
Over the coming weeks, Midson Construction Victoria will begin installing new foundations at the recently excavated former dock area.
Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn said this is a big step where the community will start to see the new structure taking shape.
The Interior of Benalla Art gallery has been gutted as its redevelopment takes shape.
“It is fantastic to see the gallery project moving forward,” Cr Hearn said.
“Every step brings us closer to a fresh, modern space that all locals and visitors can enjoy, while still holding on to the history that makes our town special.
“We are building something that everyone in Benalla can be proud of for years to come.”
The finished Benalla Art Gallery will deliver better exhibition spaces, improved visitor facilities, and easier access.
Council will continue to keep the community updated as building works progress.
