‘‘We are looking for public thoughts on the way forward for the shire, and the population centres,’’ said chamber president Rick Shaw.
‘‘The forum is about ideas being heard by people involved in the planning, policy and decision making of the area.’’
Mr Shaw made clear that the forum was a vessel for proactive and constructive ideas.
‘‘What we want is real on the ground ideas, feedback and solutions for the future of our region.’’
The event would see a role-reversal in policy-making, whereby elected officials are invited to sit and listen to the local experts and talent on offer.
‘‘This is not a vehicle for venting about what others haven’t achieved or the fallibility of government, it’s about the individual’s vision for the area and perhaps the individual’s version of some solutions,’’ he explained.
Chamber is accepting contributions on a range of topics from housing to energy alternatives, including: Transport, Housing, Youth Employment, Council Interaction, Energy Alternatives, New Business, Social Amenities, Tourism and Water (the future).
Speakers will be invited to speak for between three and five minutes, with the potential for questions if time allows.
‘‘In general people complain that their voice is not heard. We would like to give the public the opportunity to be heard by key stakeholders,’’ Mr Shaw said.
‘‘For us, we may pick up an idea that has not previously been contemplated.
‘‘For them, it will make people feel worthwhile and that all ideas are important.’’
Local state member Helen Dalton and federal member Sussan Ley have been formally invited to attend the forum, as have representatives from council, including CEO Karina Ewer.
Helen confirmed her attendance on Monday.
“I look forward to attending this event, the Chamber have been kind enough to re-schedule until 2 March to ensure I can attend, I am very grateful for their flexibility,” said Mrs Dalton.
“I am very keen to get to Finley and listen to what the community has to say.
“This is a great chance for the community to get together and advocate for what’s needed in Finley.
“I’m concerned in particular about mobile blackspots, housing shortage, and the teacher shortage at Finley High School – with elections coming up now is our chance to unite to push for investment in our area.”
The event is currently slated for 5.30pm on Wednesday, March 2 with a venue yet to be determined.
