Previously a 24/7 gym, it has had to reduce hours to maintain a COVID-Safe environment, with an appointed Marshall and volunteers conveniently opening the gym during peak hours.
New equipment was purchase in June 2020 to help members reach the next level of their training.
The new Hex barbell, popularly used for deadlifts, also helps members maximise their lifting power through a range of movements that also includes shrugs, carries and pressing.
The gym also purchased a range of medicine balls and a plyo box to help members improve their explosiveness, core strength and stabilisation.
Recently, Tocumwal Trigger Performance's trainer Lachlan McDonald started his Tuesday 6am and 10.30am classes in the Finley Community Gym and is also available for private sessions for the remainder of the day.
“Having a resource like Lachie (McDonald) available and taking classes at the gym is a big tool for our members,” club president Paul Dundon said.
“Our new equipment and the tireless work of our committee has made the pandemic bearable for our members who are able to step into a COVID-Safe environment and regularly exercise.
“Recently we completed a Finley to Berrigan fundraising run and was able to raise about $9000.
“We will be looking to contribute this to classes and new equipment to take the gym one step further for our members.”
Mr Dundon is urging all members to respect the sign-in process, maintain social distancing practices, provide their own towel and wipe down equipment after each use.
Opening hours change regularly each weekend, visit https://www.facebook.com/finleycommunitygym for updated times.
The club's annual general meeting will be held at the Finley Country Club at 6pm on October 9. All are welcome.
