Despite the rain and freezing conditions last Wednesday, the Tee Off for Breast Cancer Trials (Pink) Day at Finley Golf Club went ahead with great enthusiasm from the ladies in attendance.

After some consideration, it was agreed the competition be reduced to nine holes instead of eighteen. Don’t let it be said the girls will be put off when a very deserving cause is involved.
Organiser Joanne Dean had some great prizes organised with the help of major sponsor, Finley Bakery & Patisserie. The winning team consisted of Marg Lemsing, Linda Rendell, Helen Wastle and Joanne Dean.
All ladies had entered into the spirit of the day, dressing in all shades and shapes of pink; however, Sue Simpson, Anne Harding and Kim McCaw went above and beyond in taking out the best dressed team. Captain Sharon Pyle was the best dressed individual winner.
Michael Littlejohn and Zoe Richardson from the bakery attended the presentation of prizes and gave a touching speech on how they and many others have been personally involved in a loved one's journey with cancer.
Joanne was extremely pleased with the financial result for the day and would like to thank the following for making this possible – Finley Bakery & Patisserie, Daisy Mae, Finley Quality Meats, Jerilderie Ladies Golf, Betty Walsh and everyone who was involved in any way including the Finley Golf Club ladies for their ongoing support.
A special thanks must go to the men involved in the afternoon competition for their participation on the day. It is rumoured that Chick Braybon raised a few eyebrows and whistles when he turned up in his pink accessories.
Following a telephone conversation with tee off trials community fundraising co-ordinator Lauren McNeil, it came to light that Finley Golf Club has raised just on $10,000 since 1999 for this cause and Joanne Dean is to be congratulated and thanked for her part played for this cause and also the Biggest Morning Tea events.

Finley Community Help Group has once again provided Finley Regional Care with a wonderful annual donation, this year for $2727.21.
The donation will be used to help pay for insurance on their community Bus. This twelve seat vehicle, including the provision for two wheelchairs, is used regularly to transport residents and clients to appointments, or on outings.
$2000 of this grant will also be put towards ongoing support and training for staff in Palliative Care Education. This education assists care staff in learning about and understanding a palliative approach to care and how to help residents and their families through this difficult time.
On top of the annual donation, Barry Dawe from Finley Community Help Group presented CEO Ben Levesque with another cheque for $3,000.00.
This one-off donation will be put towards the purchase of a new trailer which will be used in the community by the maintenance team who help people stay in their homes by maintaining their gardens.
Ben expressed his sincere gratitude to the Finley Community Help Group, which operates a very successful second hand shop and is run by a band of enthusiastic and hardworking volunteers, for their ongoing support to Finley Regional Care as well as the many other local organisations they generously support.
Please show your support to this group by taking a visit to their second hand shop in Finley

Total number of squares from each town will be collected and packed.
The organisers appreciate all the wonderful work local communities have done with the knitting of these squares, making up rugs and sending them to the libraries.

Members of the Finley Swimming Club and interested members of the community are advised the annual general meeting will be held on Thursday, September 3, starting at 7pm at the Finley Recreation Reserve. New members and fresh input are always welcome. COVID-19 regulations will be in place.
The Swimming Club committee, together with the Swimming Pool Management committee are extremely excited with the great facilities now available at the complex following the completion of the new building. This work was carried out following a grant received by Berrigan Shire Council under a drought relief program.
The Pool Management committee held their AGM recently which resulted in Jenny Isedale elected as president, Linda Turley as secretary, Debbie Shumack as treasurer and Nikki Wane, Barry Dawe, Maureen Shalders, Kate Walsh, and Paul Burns on the committee.

Finley can be proud of its volunteers who continually come to the aid of many charity and service organisations in the town. Even the inclement weather conditions fail to hinder their efforts.
Finley Lions Club members are no exception and would like to announce Mick Chaplin as the winner of last Saturday’s wood raffle.

Many members of the Finley community will be saddened to hear of the recent passing of our well known singing dog, Wolfie.
Wolfie was the much loved pet of the Whittaker family.
He was given to Betty when he was tiny with little hopes of pulling through.
However, with loving care and attention, he survived and became the centre of attention and incentive for the very successful "Rexpo" event which took place in Finley in 2015.
When Max would phone his mum in the nursing home, Wolfie would add his love with a serenade.

The Finley CanAssist branch will be hosting a street stall on Friday, September 4.
An invitation is extended to all to go along and check out the goodies on sale. Donations of saleable goods would be much appreciated.
They will also be conducting a raffle with all proceeds raised used to continue supporting local families who are fighting cancer.
This is just another example of the wonderful community spirit in Finley.
