That is the warning from Tocumwal Chamber of Commerce president Sergio Redegalli, who says not enough consideration has been given to alternate design options.
Berrigan Shire Council announced earlier this month that concept designs for the multi-million dollar hospitality development had been approved, with concept designs now expected to follow.
Project manager Nathan O’Connell confirmed the new development would not replace public toilets once located at the same site.
‘‘The toilets at the information centre have been decommissioned and, at this stage, aren't expected to be in the plans we’re expecting to receive from the architect,’’ he said.
‘‘The new toilets by the splash park have been put in place to compensate for this and also contain a shower, and there are also public toilets by the library down the street.’’
Mr Redegalli said it’s a clear oversight to not have toilets at the visitor centre.
‘‘While it’s good that we have buildings and projects moving forward for the development of our town, it’s got to be done in the right way from a design and needs perspective,’’ he said.
‘‘From what I’ve seen so far, the council is only considering one architect's plans with no others being consulted.
‘‘This offers no ability to solve design issues which may occur from the initial and only plans to be submitted.’’
Mr Redegalli said uncertainly around the development plans is also a concern, with the location of visitor information service during construction still unknown.
Mr O’Connell said it is still being discussed.
‘‘As the plans and architect drawings haven't been accepted by council yet, they haven’t moved forward with planning of the temporary repositioning of the info centre.
‘‘We don’t know exactly when the construction will begin, but we know it will not be until after the busy summer tourism period.’’
