Girls captain Niamh Mason will take over the responsibilities from outgoing leader Emma Carey, while Ben Neessen will take over from Riley Dempster as boys captain.
Mollie McGrath and Vamos Patu have been named vice captains for the next 12 months.
The captains and vice captains were selected by the student body in an election at the end of Term 3.
Outgoing school captain Riley Dempster said he is confident the student body is well represented going forward.
‘‘Niamh and Ben are going to set a great example for their fellow students and for the school,’’ he said.
‘‘I wish them all the best and know they’ll do a great job over the next year.’’
For both captains, it was a huge surprise when they were brought into principal Jeff Ward’s office and given the good news.
‘‘I was pretty excited when I was named captain,’’ Niamh said.
‘‘I’m really honoured but I honestly didn’t see it coming.
‘‘When I was casting my vote I didn’t know who to choose, they’re all good friends of mine and all would have been perfect to follow in Emma’s shoes.’’
Both captains are planning to bring the school together with a combined effort to get them involved in social and academic events, as well as encouraging students to get out of their comfort zones.
‘‘I really want everyone to try something new that they haven’t tried before, that’s my main goal this year,’’ Niamh said.
‘‘We can only try and be half as good as Riley and Emma.
‘‘We want to run as many activities and get everyone involved as much as possible.
‘‘Last year was a very good year group, as school captains I want to just follow their foot steps,’’ Ben added.
Mr Ward said he is looking forward to seeing what the new leaders will achieve in 2019/20.
‘‘The announcement of the new school leaders would have to be one of my highlights for the new term,’’ he said.
‘‘To share in their excitement is infectious. They come with new ideas, vision and a willingness to get on with the job of making a change or a difference.
‘‘We have four wonderful people who were elected by their peers and staff and I look forward to working with them for the next 12 months.’’
