All it takes to access the app is using a smartphone to scan a QR code, displayed at the visitor centre and businesses around the twin towns.
In the web app you can book local accommodation, experiences and attractions, find upcoming events and scope out local shops.
It also answers the questions most frequently asked of the visitor centre staff, such as where to find parking or toilets, public transport options, camping and road trip ideas.
“Guest Compass came to me late last year demonstrating its web app for accommodation properties, with keyless entry and all the information at the guests’ fingertips,” Echuca Moama Tourism former chief executive Kathryn Mackenzie said.
“I looked at the features of the app and asked the developer Martin Kelly whether he could adapt this for visitor centres.
“Staff in visitor centres are very knowledgeable about the whole region and if some of this could be translated to a web app that would perfect.”
Kathryn said the benefit of the web app, which was launched in July, was it drew from the Echuca Moama Tourism website, ensuring it has the latest, up-to-date information.
She said Martin provided hundred of hours gratis to Echuca Moama Tourism on the app, working with a developer in the Netherlands.
“Martin and his family had been coming up to Echuca Moama as visitors for 30 years,” Kathryn said.
“He knew how hard the pandemic had hit this region with border closures and the impact of the lockdowns and wanted to give something back to the community, especially tourism.
“Staff member Karen Colvin worked long hours with Martin uploading all the data onto the app and we now have an innovative web app that the community, industry and visitors will have access to.”
