From Berrigan to Benalla, winter’s shackles are ready to be cast aside, as helpful conditions signal another bumper hay season.

With the outlook so promising, it is reasonable to ask: Is your hay machinery delivering the optimal return on investment?
Technology and options for hay equipment have advanced at an incredible pace.
While the choice at first might seem daunting, agricultural implement specialist Kverneland says those in the know are voting with their feet — and their investment decisions.
As a result, in an announcement made in May and formalised in June, Kverneland awarded PFG Australia — its distributor here — the company’s highest accolade, Kverneland Group’s Importer of the Year for 2021.
Kverneland says more farmers and contractors than ever are flocking to its grass products.
More Kverneland products — from mowers to tedders, rakes to mower conditioners — are finding favour right around the country and one of the answers is the expansion of the range to appeal to larger operations, as well as family farms.
Take Kverneland’s range of mowers. Depending on the needs and scale of an operation, there’s the rear-mounted 2324 mower with a working width of 2.4m for smaller mowing operations, through to the 9.5m butterfly mowers with centre suspension, huge working width and non-stop break back.
Next in line are Kverneland’s rakes. Again, there’s a choice for a varying scale of operations.
For smaller areas and a lower horsepower tractor, the single rotor 3.5m gives the option of pivoting, fixed three-point linkage mounting and a trailed version.
For larger farming, the twin rotor range out to the quad rotor means these rakes can place two large swaths into one, allowing a total of up to 12.5m crop to be gathered into one swath. Even better, each rotor can be lifted individually if needed and transport height is safely under 4m.
Farmers have also shown great enthusiasm for Kverneland’s steel-on-steel mower conditioners.
Ranging from 3.2m to the recently released 4.7m model — off the back of a successful launch in the United States — they feature SuperFloat dual action suspension, centre pivot drawbar and either semi-swing or roller conditioning.
“I was in Europe recently as a guest of Kverneland and saw their range of new mowers, tedders and rakes being trialled and in full swing,” PFG division national sales manager Brendan Lee said.
“I spoke with other importers and distributors who were getting the run through of new product.
“It had been announced that we (PFG) had won Importer of the Year.
“Some of the distributors asked me, ‘what are you doing differently in Australia?’.
“I said we believe in the brand, which continues to develop and release produce quality products and it’s no surprise inquiry and orders for Kverneland have jumped here.”
To see a range of Kverneland machines working in the field, a demonstration program starts in September, which you can view on their website.
