She is no stranger to fundraisers, having participated in a few over the years, but wanted to do something a bit more extreme in her 60th year.
“I wanted it to be out of my comfort zone, something I’ve never thought to do ... I’m supporting those who don’t have a choice (to lose their hair),” she said.
“I have history of leukaemia in my family, my daughter in law had non-Hodgkin’s and my uncle has adult leukaemia.”
Cindy said when she told her family and friends she was participating in the fundraiser, they thought she had lost it.
“My family think Mum has lost the plot, but ‘good on ya Mum’ ... my friends have been extremely supportive, my customers too,” she said.
As the owner and operator of Zen Soul in Cobram, she has been fundraising by selling headbands, headcoverings and biscuits in her shop.
At the time of writing, she had nearly hit her $1000 target and hoped to go well over it with the funds raised at the actual shave event at 11.30am on March 18 outside her shop.
Before she shaves her head, Cindy’s granddaughters will section her hair into small pigtails and spray-colour it.
Attendees will be able to pay to cut off one of her pigtails, before an auction takes place with the highest bidder getting to perform the actual head shaving.
Her biscuits, as well as her headscarves and headbands, will also be for sale.
A barbecue with sausages and bread donated by Woolworths Cobram will also take place for a gold coin donation.
“I’m just excited but nervous .. I’m looking forward to it, it’ll be a fun day,” Cindy said.
Donations can be made in person on the day, or online at https://secure.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/registrant/FundraisingPage.aspx?RegistrationID=849808&fbclid=IwAR1fd1niWXWSErki_EJIBtyE2Do6w4xOKm109sD_63BbVA6YC7MABCO8B7E
