Father and son take out real estate awards back-to-back

It’s been a big few weeks for father and son Sam and Peter Symes who, in the space of about a week, took home big awards in the real estate industry late last month.

Recognising his achievements after 25 years service in the caravan park industry, Sam was awarded legend status at the Victorian Caravan Park Association annual dinner.

Sam, who owned and operated Tower Business & Robinsons Real Estate, though is now semi-retired after passing the business along to sons Ricky and Peter, said the award came out of the blue.

“I’m very honoured,” Sam said.

“It was out of left field, I didn’t expect it.”

With less than a dozen legends among the group, Sam said it had been fantastic to see how far the industry had come over his career, when years ago, it was an industry on its knees.

"What it is all about for me is people being successful, putting their houses and careers on the line to invest in a caravan park," Sam said.

"If I’ve been any help in their success, I’m very proud."

Peter was a bit more forthcoming about his father's achievement, and said people did not last long in real estate without attributes such as honesty and integrity.

“The person presenting said a few things, that anyone who has ever spoken of Dad, or anyone who has ever dealt with Dad, those things in honesty, integrity, having sound morals and values, those have stood out from the rest and hence why he has been so successful for such a long time," Peter said.

And it's these attributes Sam has seemingly passed onto son Peter, who, only a week later was recognised for his high achievements when he took home the Allan White Elite performer and No. 3 top regional performer at the Ray White Annual Awards.

While Peter went back-to-back after taking out the No. 3 performer last year, he said it still came as a surprise to win the award for a second time.

"We go up against Bendigo, Ballarat, Mildura, these huge centres where house prices are bigger than here," he said.

"I wasn't expecting it, that is for sure, it was an honour and a surprise."

Sam and Peter wanted to thank their respective teams for all their work.
