It was a wet day at Katunga and despite the rain the ground was in excellent condition for the battle of the cellar dwellers.
Tocumwal won the toss and kicked with the breeze in the first quarter.
Goals from Troy Poynton and David Farrell had Tocumwal in the lead early and some excellent work down back and some inaccurate kicking from Katunga saw the Bloods take a handy 20 point lead into the first change.
Katunga had a majority of the play in the second quarter and some straighter kicking could have had Tocumwal in real trouble.
The back line were under siege but some excellent marking in tough conditions from Dion Metzner thwarted some of the Katunga incursions.
Tocumwal held onto a four point lead at half time as the rain started to come down.
Tocumwal had the breeze in the third quarter and a strong start was required to give them a handy buffer at the break.
Troy Poynton opened the scoring within the first minute of the term and Tocumwal were looking to apply more pressure.
Katunga responded however, with their run and carry in the wet conditions impressive.
As the storm approached both teams knew a handy lead before the downpour would surely lead to the four points.
It was Katunga who made the most of their opportunities and they led by 11 points at three quarter time.
The storm arrived half way through the last quarter and along with the rain came thunder and lighting, it was enough to have the game abandoned and the Swans kept the points.
Dion Metzner was Tocumwal best with some outstanding defensive marks, that should give him an enormous amount of confidence going into the final games of the year.
Final score, Katunga 7.13 (55) to Tocumwal 5.6 (36).
Tocumwal’s reserves were also unable to come away with a win, going down by 19 points.
Better players for the Bloods were Josh Sharp, Aiden Dempster, Robert Owen, Tim Brunskill, Charles Kelly and Glyn Matters.
Final score, Katunga 3.9 (27) to Tocumwal 1.2 (8).
The Bloods thirds were no match for the second-placed Swans, suffering a 69 point loss.
Better players for Tocumwal were Zander Griffin, Harvey White, Jack Gowty, Raymond Sutton, Braydie Wright and Bailey Mason.
Final score, Katunga 12.6 (78) to Tocumwal 1.3 (9).
It was a tough day for the Bloods fourths with the wind making it hard to score.
Plenty of second efforts made us stay with a chance of bouncing back.
Hamish Smithers was brilliant in defence and Mak Eddy rucked all day.
Blair Eddy was excellent reading the tap but yhe ball just wouldn’t bounce Tocumwal’s way.
While the Bloods were resilient to the end, Katunga were just a better team on the day and deserved the win.
Final score, Katunga 5.6 (36) to Tocumwal 1.5 (11).
