The inter club triples competition for the Holy Shield started on Sunday at Oaklands, when Finley played Berrigan.
It was a good match, everyone approved of the format, but slight changes will be made for the remaining rounds.
The social atmosphere created a great day for all bowlers. Four clubs are involved and after round one, Oaklands is the leader on points and shots up. The next round will be played at Finley on July 14. Don is at present forming three teams of three to represent the club.
The ‘Poore Bob’ pairs will be held at 1pm this Sunday. Prizemoney of $1000 has been made available for the event.
Entries close at 4pm on Saturday, to Don, 0459160749, or to the club, 58831324.
The programmed events for the year have been completed. The presentation of trophies won during the year will be presented on Sunday, July 7, following morning bowls and a barbecue luncheon. Please indicate on the invitation list if you intend being present.
Raffle roster officials: Sheila Walsh and Leslie McKellar.
Berrigan
The busy winter continues at Berrigan Bowls Club. Coach Geoff Blake will run an information session on bowls etiquette followed by a session on the green dedicated to the skill and art of being a good lead on Sunday at 12.30pm.
All bowlers are strongly encouraged to attend.
After the coaching sessions, the greens will be available for further rounds of the inter-club round robin singles.
The upsets are continuing in this event and it is great to see the interest it has generated.
Last Sunday, Berrigan sent a strong team to Oaklands to play in the first round of the Holy Shield.
It took some time for the Berrigan team to adjust to the lightning-quick greens but in the end Berrigan defeated Finley 95 to 71.
In the other game Oaklands defeated Jerilderie 91 to 66.
