The event regulary attracts more than 100 golfers for the week-long tournament, which started last week with the Championship Pro Am on Monday followed by Trainee Championships for the next four days.
The Trainee Championships have been held in Tocumwal since 2003 and the event will be sponsored by the Berrigan Shire for the next three years.
Golf director Rodney Booth said it’s a huge milestone for the club.
‘‘It’s not just a big deal for the club but also the town. This year we have more than 110 trainees and they arrived last weekend and stayed right up until Friday.
‘‘Once you include caddies, managers, officals and PGA staff it brings the total up to about 125 people in town for a week.
‘‘Between Tocumwal and Barooga, the motels and accommodation plus the pubs, supermarket and other businesses all benefit from them, so it’s a pretty big deal for the town.
‘‘It’s compulsory for Victorian, Tasmanian and South Australian trainees to play and then it’s optional for the rest of the trainees across the country.
Mr Booth said this year marks the 17th year the club has hosted the event, and maintaing the facilities is a big benefactor.
‘‘The location of the venue, quality of the course and club, it all offer what you need for a golf tournament.
‘‘Because the traineeship goes for three years, some of the competitors would have been here before.’’
Although the weather was a bit choppy on Thursday and Friday, Booth said it was still a successful tournament.
Winning the Trainee Championship by six shots was Dale Crothers from Yarrawonga.
