Everyone is most welcome to come along and cheer our teams on.
More success for Chris Philpot.
On Sunday at Kilmore Bowls Club, Chris won the Central Goulburn Murray Region Men’s State Singles Event.
This win progresses him to the Station Champions Week at Bendigo in April where winners can progress to a National Title. Not just a great coach Chris.
The Ladies Triples finals were held this week with a win to Effie Eaton, Andrea Brown and Judy Harvie over Cheryl Townsing, Wendy Daley and Aileen Phelan.
The Men’s Triples finals were played on Sunday with the winners Harry Malloy, Garry Beer and John Wilson prevailing over Col Farrar, Ross Job and Ian Cameron. Congratulations to all our winners.
Social bowls are played on Tuesdays at 9.30am. Tocumwal welcomes all bowlers to their social events.
Entry forms are available at Reception or ring 0358 749 111 for the Allan Seamer Tournament and the Easter Tournament in April.
Don’t forget Barefoot Bowls on Mondays at 5.45 for 6.30pm.
Only about five weeks to go. How quickly the weeks fly past.
Jerilderie
In a terrific end to the home and away season Jerilderie won all three rinks against Numurkah at home on Saturday.
What a great result, finishing on top of the division three ladder.
Terry Chaplains rink won by three, Lucy Gurciullo’s rink had the best result winning by 12 and Col Bryce’s rink won by six.
The day was topped off by an enjoyable dinner afterwards at the sports club.
Barefoot bowls continues on Wednesday evenings at 6pm roll up, all welcome.
Jerilderie pennant will be playing Tocumwal at Berrigan on Saturday in the qualifying final, Cocky to supply the all day suckers.
Berrigan
The pennant season came to a disappointing end for all Berrigan teams on the weekend with again none being able to break through for a win and none qualifying for the finals.
That said, for the Saturday teams in particular, it has been a season of consolidation and experience with all the new bowlers much improved for the experience.
With some additional depth and experience, both the Division Two and Division Four teams should be in a position to improve next season.
The challenge ahead for the Friday team is to expand the playing base.
The Friday team put in a very creditable effort against Numurkah Golf at home narrowly defeated 56 to 74 (0-16).
Clare Harvey and her rink of Val Daly, Garry Seamer and Mary Curtin were pipped at the post 21 to 22 while Elaine Hawkins lost 18 to 24 and Nan Dart went down 17 to 28.
The Friday team finished in sixth place – not a bad effort at all.
The Saturday Division Two and Division Four teams both hosted Finley on the weekend and both were unable to come away with a win to finish the season.
The Division Two team took on a highly motivated Finley team needing a win to make the finals.
While the Berrigan team put on a much better performance than it had the three weeks prior, it was not enough to upset the Finley’s finals plans, losing 78 to 106.
Rick Bradbury’s rink of Garry Seamer, Rachel Head and Clare Harvey was the only winners on the day 27 to 18.
David Reynoldson, a late call up to skip, put in an admirable effort before succumbing 23 to 27, Paul Glanvill with an inexperienced team, lost 17 to 26 while Matt Hansen was given a bowls lesson defeated 11 to 35.
The Division Four team held onto sixth place for the season.
It was a similar story in Division Four where an experienced and finals-bound Finley were too strong for Berrigan, with Berrigan losing 20 to 66.
David O’Dwyer lost 12 to 33 and Bill Daly lost 8 to 33.
The Division Four team will all be better for the experience next year. Both Finley teams stayed to celebrate the season with a barbecue after the game.
While Berrigan was unable to make the finals, it will host the first round of the Division Three and Four finals this Saturday.
Being chosen to host the finals reflects well on both the volunteers who have dramatically improved the greens and the top-class catering team at the club.
The Men’s pairs championship came to a conclusion last week with David Woodward and Matt Hansen defeating David Fox and David Reynoldson in the final 22 to 17.
Woodward and Hansen pulled away to a 21 to 10 lead with three ends to play before Fox and Reynoldson came storming home, almost pinching the match on the last end.
In the earlier semi-finals Woodward/Hansen def. Beard/McVicar 13-16 and Fox/Reynoldson def. Glanvill/Bradbury 17 to 16.
Woodward and Hansen will go on to play in the Division Men’s Pairs Champion of Champions event on 17 March.
The Open Triples club championship will be played on Saturday March 2 2019.
Format is 12 ends of 3-bowl triples. All bowls members eligible to enter.
Entries for the Garry McLennan 3-bowl triples tournament to be held on Saturday, March 30 2019 are also starting to come in.
The Club Presentation night will be held on Saturday 6 April – 6:30pm for 7pm start following the Club Mixed Pairs championship earlier that afternoon.
Finley RS
The final home and away round of both Friday and Saturday pennant held last week was not a great way to finish of the year’s season, however despite the defeats all teams remain in place for next season.
Numurkah Golf had a win over the Friday pennant team and Division One at home to Barooga Sports came out with two points courtesy of Ian Smethurst’s rink posting a last gasp win.
Division Three travelled to Cobram and didn’t fare much better with some close losses but an overall defeat.
Finley RSC BC will be hosting pennant finals this week:
Friday: Division One — Cobram v Numurkah Golf, qualifying final and Tocumwal Golf v Barooga Sports, elimination final; Division Two — Picola v Cobram-qualifying final, Barooga Sports v Tocumwal Golf, elimination final.
Saturday: Division One — Wunghnu v Barooga Sports, qualifying final; Strathmerton v Cobram, elimination final.
Last Tuesday was the start of Ladies 100 up matches with Ofelia Cochrane def. Noela Thomas; Karen Peacock def. Robyn Ferry; Kerry Turner def. Iris Reynolds.
Next Tuesday Lyn Donkin v Carmel Sutcliffe will complete the B grade final and Ofelia will take on Kerry in the 100 up.
Other 100 up games will be finalised later in the week.
Thursday saw 26 teams competing in the Men’s Trade day with teams from within our Division and Rutherglen BC sending a representative also.
Ray Nye’s Barooga Sports triples team took out the first prize with runner up Keith Berger skipping a composite Picola/Numurkah Golf team.
Other best game winners were Brian Gentle (Numurkah) and Jeff Peacock (RSC).
Two games of the RSC Men’s Pairs were completed on Sunday with Archie West/Roy Johnson def. Bruce Ferry/Neville Ingram; Allan Thomas/Peter Wilson def. David West/Jimmy Maher.
Further games to be completed next Sunday.
The chook run was also held on Sunday with Charlie Pisani, Sharren Pisani and Kerry Turner taking home the prizes.
Don’t forget it’s on again next Sunday; all you have to do is turn up at the bowls greens at 10.45am for an 11am start.
