Di goes back-to-back

By Southern Riverina News

Finley RS Bowling Club’s Di Retallick has gone back-to-back, claiming another Ladies A grade singles championship last week.

Retallick was dominant in the final, defeating Karen Peacock 25 to 5 to secure her third title at the RS Club.

The former Champion of Champions winner previously won the championship in the 2014/15 season and last year.

‘‘I’m pretty pleased, especially with winning two in a row,’’ Retallick said.

‘‘Singles bowls is definitely my favourite because you need to be able to draw well as well as having all the other skills to win.

‘‘I skip the Midweek Pennant which has helped me learn how to play up shots.’’

The match between Retallick and Peacock was a one sided affair, with everything working the way of the former.

Despite the pressure of trying to win back-to-back titles, Retallick was cool, calm and collected.

‘‘I don’t get nervous and I was very determined,’’ she said.

‘‘Karen had some really good shots throughout but I managed to take them off her.’’

It was a busy day for the RS Club last Tuesday, with Lyn Donkin moving into the final of the Ladies B grade championships with her win over Kerry Turner 24 to 16.

Carmel Sutcliffe got home in a tight game over Iris Reynolds 25 to 23, setting up a clash against Robyn Ferry in the next round.

Peter Wilson has also moved into the final of the Men’s A grade singles with his win over Manfred Krug.

Tony Turner and Archie West will now play off for a finals berth against Wilson at a later date.

The final round of pennant saw mixed results for the RS Club.

The Midweek side brought home four points against Nathalia.

Weekend pennant saw Division Three sharing points after rain prevented play at Numurkah Golf, while the Division One side had a nice win over Cobram at home scoring 14 points.

The RS Club would like to give their best wishes for a safe and happy Christmas to all of the club’s bowlers.
