Eagles claim house shield

By Southern Riverina News

The Eagles sporting house had a clean sweep of the silverware taking out the hotly contested Tocumwal Public School athletics carnival, from Wombats and then Koalas.

In doing so, Eagles retained the Andrew Scott Memorial Shield.

All houses fielded similar numbers of competitors on the day but Eagles did their team proud to also take home the Rosemary Reed Shield for Participation.

Tocumwal Public School principal Darren White said it was a successful day for the school.

‘‘The carnival was held on a perfect winter’s day. It was very exciting to see students competing and supporting each other throughout their events,’’ Mr White said.

‘‘Thank you to Mrs Hatty and Mrs Keech for their organisation of the carnival and for the teachers and parents who assisted in making it such an enjoyable day.”

Many individual athletes shone throughout the day with some age groups closely contested.

The 2018 champions were as follows:

Junior Boy: Logan White, runner-up Heath Mansell.

Junior Girls: Alice Bourchier, runner-up Olivia Thompson.

11 Years Boy: Hunter Hardwidge, runner-up Charlie Locke.

11 Years Girl: Tahlia Pate, runner-up Katya Eddy.

Senior Boy: Joe Barker, runners-up Kane Wardlaw and Jackson Bury.

Senior Girls: Jessica Bennett, runner-up Alana Sutton.

Thirty students from Tocumwal will compete at the Finley Zone Athletics Carnival on Friday, looking to qualify for the regional carnival.

‘‘We wish them all the best of luck,” Mr White said.
