Regional road blitz

Roads across the region will hopefully begin to improve, with the opening of a new dedicated body, Regional Roads Victoria.

Road Safety Minister Luke Donnellan said the body will get straight to work on the biggest road maintenance blitz Victoria has ever seen, and as the weather warms, crews will be out in force delivering hundreds of road upgrades across the state.

More than 1500km of country roads will be repaired, resurfaced or rebuilt.

‘‘Regional Victorians will get the attention they deserve as we deliver the biggest road maintenance blitz the state has ever seen,’’ Mr Donnellan said.

‘‘Over the coming months, you’ll see crews fixing hundreds of the country roads that people rely on every day to get to work or take their kids to school.’’

Regional Roads Victoria chief regional roads officer Paul Northey said they work is getting under way straight away.

‘‘We know the condition of country roads is the number one challenge on our arterial network — that’s why we’re getting straight to work this month to repair and rebuild the roads that need it most.’’
