Police slam the brakes on reckless driver

By Kimberley Price

LAST week a speed demon almost got away with reckless driving and theft from a local petrol station.

Police were on the hunt for an unregistered blue, two-door, Lancer coupe after the distinctive car, with no plates and a silver bonnet and rear spoiler, who stole from United Petrol station at 1.45pm on Thursday.

Spotted by attendants attempting to steal drinks, the female driver sped out of Rochester with $80 of unpaid fuel, towards Elmore, overtaking vehicles on the left-hand side of the road.

The Lancer was detected by Elmore police but sped away. The car was again spotted, by Tongala police just outside Elmore, where the driver tried to ram the police vehicle before speeding away back up the Midland Highway towards Rochester.

The incident was mentioned on WIN News on Friday night, after which a number of people came forward with information about the female driver.

A short time later, a woman was apprehended and remanded.

The Rochester Police Station would like to thank everyone for their assistance.
