CJSA president Mario Pardo said the competition, which incorporates teams from Finley and Yarrawonga, modified its age groups to better align with the miniroos national playing format and to make the sport available to more children.
‘‘We’ve just completed another round of competition and its been fantastic to see so many kids, and their parents, grandparents and friends, getting out there and thoroughly enjoying their matches each Saturday morning,’’ she said.
‘‘Our competition has a real focus on having fun, and we love that the kids of any age and ability can get involved on an equal basis, develop their skills and make new friends. We introduced a new under 5s age group program, which involves a skills session followed by a series of games, which has been incredibly popular and also very entertaining to watch.
‘‘The girls U11 competition is also stronger this year, with the nine-a-side format really helping the girls develop their skills and increasing the girls enjoyment of the game. We’ve got lots of first-time players in this competition, and mixing more experienced players with newer players into sides has helped make games more competitive.’’
The under 7 and under 9 competitions have also grown, with the greater number of teams helping players to maximise their game time, and there is also a new under 13s format.
‘‘With the season around half-way through, the players have been having fun but also working to develop their individual skills, their team-based play and sportsmanship and we are looking forward to an even better second-half of the season,’’ Pardo said.
