Hosted by Berrigan Shire Council at the Strawberry Fields Tuppal Rd site, the Saturday, May 4 Blues on the River is being billed as a ‘‘great day out for the family’’.
There will be food and drink stands available, a kids play area and drought support services.
The performers include King Puppy & Carnivore, Nathan Kaye, Matt Katsis, Sons of Blues, Surprise Chef and Squid Nebula.
Berrigan Shire Mayor Matt Hannan encouraged all locals to take advantage of the new event.
‘‘When council hosted drought workshops last year we identified a concert of some sort would be a feel good event for the farmers,’’ he said.
‘‘This isn’t just for the farmers but for their family and friends, I hope as many people as possible can attend to listen to some great music.
‘‘It’s about our farmers taking a short break from the drought.’’
Tocumwal Chamber of Commerce president Sergio Redegalli said Blues on the River could potentially become a regular event, depending on the success of next week’s inaugural concert.
‘‘There’s going to be great music by the river so council must see the value in supporting it, and from the chamber side we’re hoping it can set up something permanent,’’ Mr Redegalli said.
‘‘This blues concert is a day for the farmers and the residents. They can see the Strawberry Fields festival site with some of the amazing art installations and relax by a beautiful picnic location.
‘‘Strawberry Fields organisers know how to put on a concert, so it will be professionally done and a rare opportunity to see something like this for free.’’
Entry is free for Berrigan Shire residents and $10 at the gate for anyone living outside Berrigan Shire who wishes to attend. Children under 15 also enter free.
The Blues on the River concert will be held from noon until 9pm at the Strawberry Fields site — access via 467 Tuppal Rd, Tocumwal.
