Tocumwal and the surrounding region received just six millimetres of rain last month, which is well below the 33mm January average, according to data collected by the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) at Tocumwal Airport.
The Finley Post Office also reported a dry month with 3.2mm compared to the January average of 32.9mm.
Berrigan farmer Bruce Rendell — who has been collecting rain data for more than 50 years — said Berrigan township received 6mm in January.
However, he said some Berrigan farms reported nearly 25mm for the month during thunderstorms.
The Southern Riverina was among the driest for the entire south west region of NSW.
According to the BOM, the Finley Post Office has been the driest location in the south west for the past three months.
Despite the dry January in Tocumwal, it did go close to receiving its average rainfall for November, December and January as 95mm fell in that time, just eight short of the average.
The heavens opened two weeks ago with 27.8mm of rain recorded at Tocumwal Airport and 8.2mm at Finley Post Office.
