Berrigan Shire Council will host a morning ceremony at Tocumwal, at which it will announce the shire’s Citizen of the Year and other award winners.
Complementing the official ceremony at Tocumwal will be the Foreshore Markets and fun for all the kids, including a plastic duck race along the Murray.
The Berrigan Shire awards consists of five categories — Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, Junior Sportsperson of the Year, and Team or Community Organisation of the Year.
Everything kicks off at 8am with breakfast and formal proceedings at 9am.
Running concurrently at Berrigan will be a separate celebration which starts with the traditional Berrigan Country Women’s Association’s Aussie breakfast.
It will be held at the CWA Hall in Chanter St from 7.30am with the raising of the Australian flag.
Lasting about two hours, the morning’s activities will include some rousing performances from the Cobram Pipe Band.
As day turns to night, the celebrations will continue at Jerilderie with an event hosted by Murrumbidgee Council.
The evening celebrations are renowned for their impressive fireworks displays and great entertainment at Luke Park.
Murrumbidgee Council’s Australia Day Awards ceremony will be held as part of the evening, with presentations for Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year and Little Aussies of the Year.
The night kicks off at 6.30pm, finishing with the fireworks display at 9.45pm.
