The local group’s newest member, after being inducted by Lions district governor Judy McKerrow last month, Mr Taig said the club has also extended to him a great social outlet.
‘‘Lions are doing some good things around town, and I needed to get out there and do something,’’ he said.
‘‘I’m trying to do my bit and take a bit of ownership of the town.
‘‘I’m 62 and the people who are in the Lions are my age group, and I’m good friends with a few of them; — some of them even tried to convince me to join in the past.’’
More than 50 people witnessed Mr Taig’s induction, among them Lions and their partners and other guests.
It was also a night to honour the group’s long-serving members.
Ron Beattie was recognised for 40 years of service, Ken Lowry for 35 years, Graeme Falconer for 15 years and John O’Rourke and Peter Scott 10 years each.
As luck would have it for Mr Taig, his induction coincided with the club’s annual Christmas festivities.
Guests enjoyed a social evening at the Finley Golf Club, with a raffle and number of Christmas quiz questions testing their knowledge.
The Finley Lions Club members finished 2018 catering at the Finley Xmas Xtravaganza, which was very successful.
The next event on their calendar is Youth of the Year competition — a public speaking competition involving high school students, which will be held next month.
