HEATHCOTE carers will benefit from Victoria’s first whole-of-government strategy, which aims to provide additional support for carers throughout the next four years.
Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said the Victorian Carer Strategy 2018–22 focused on providing greater access to support groups, financial services and transport, and better identification and help for young carers.
“When carers are supported, they enjoy a better quality of life and have improved health and wellbeing,” he said.
“We have many dedicated carers in Northern Victoria and this strategy and additional funding will help them to remain connected to their community and continue to do the things they love.”
The strategy was launched by Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing Martin Foley and parliamentary secretary for Carers and Volunteers Gabrielle Williams.
The government will invest an additional $1.2 million for extra respite, school holiday programs and support for young carers, as well as more support for carers of people with a mental illness.
